Obama as Presidential Canditate
Adel Tamano was asked by one listener to which Presidential candidate he'd like to see in the White House, and I could see Adel's eyes just open wide at his excitement batting for Obama. He was very impressed with Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope", and the fact that Obama came from a background that was less than privileged, a Black American, whose roots were disparate - from the plains of Kansas (where his grandparents settled after the war) to Kenya (where his Harvard educated father was born.
If I could put in my two cents of opinion, if he's impressed with "Audacity of Hope", Tamano should read Obama's "Dreams from my Father" which is the best autobiography written by a US President, dead or alive!
A Spokesman for the Opposition
One almost irate listener asked why it seems the Opposition is so negative and can't seem to see any good with the current administration's deeds.
Tamano mentioned that it was the Opposition's role to be the Devil's Advocate, since this current administration has two government TV stations at their disposal to espouse their causes down our throats.
When another listener asked if Tamano finds it hypocritical to criticize the Arroyo administration since the Opposition has no 'moral ascendancy' to pontificate since Erap Estrada (the symbolic head) is accused of plunder, Tamano just said that we all have sins, and it's his role to just point out what they're doing wrong. He points out that 95% of government employees are good, it's just that 5% of the corrupt bad eggs affect the whole country, for good or ill.
A Moslem Who Espouses Population Control?
Tamano mentioned hunger as the most blatant sin from a President who prides herself as an "economist". With 70% of the Philippine population considered poor and struggling to find food day to day, one wonders where all the taxes go, especially that only 20% pay for the taxes. That's a burden to those who are breaking their backs for a majority of hungry folks! He even mentioned that he likes Good Times because it talks about sex and sexuality in an open manner. With a population bordering on 90 million, we need to really think about population control to lessen hunger in our country.
Collective Wisdom
One other sin that Tamano pointed out is the Arroyo's bright boys creating that controversial MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) with the MNLF for six years without consulting the other people who might be affected by this - the lumads, the other Christian families who have settled in Mindanao, the opposition. I'd be up in arms if I've heard of an agreement dismembering our country. Tamano said that it doesn't matter if one is a Christian or a Moslem, there's a collective wisdom that is innate, that you know is right when one decides on something important. And cutting up the Republic is a script straight from Dumb and Dumbest!
